Is Sculptra right for you? Some common questions:
Did you know that Sculptra doesn’t just treat the effects of aging? Sculptra treats the cause of facial aging—and that’s where Sculptra differs from other dermal fillers. Let’s dive into exactly what Sculptra is and how it works through these commonly asked questions about Sculptra.
What is it?
Sculptra is a brand name of a dermal filler option. There are other brands of dermal filler treatments and products. Similar to some of these, Sculptra is made up of an injectable liquid. Sculptra’s unique liquid is Poly-L-Acid. This is a synthetic form of lactic acid (lactic acid is what your body produces naturally after exercise).
How does it work?
Sculptra uses the Poly-L-Acid to stimulate collagen generation. It works underneath the skin to revive the structures deep in the dermis. When collagen strands begin to rebuild, the skin structure fills out and strengthens. Since this process stimulates collagen, tissues increase in volume gradually and naturally.
What’s the procedure like?
At Sculptra appointments, a topical anesthetic may be applied to help with any discomfort. After the areas of attention are mapped out, the aesthetic injector injects the liquid into the skin. The process of collagen stimulate will begin after the injection takes effect.
What does it treat?
Sculptra is generally used for deep facial wrinkles, folds, and creases. It’s also used when there’s been a significant loss of volume in cheeks or temples. Using Sculptra fills out the face from below the skin layer. Recently, Sculptra has been increasingly used for wrinkles or folds in the chest area as we
Is there any downtime?
This is an in-and-out procedure, so your clients can continue on with their day after a Sculptra appointment. However, as with all procedures, mild irritation or swelling may occur at the injection sites.
How long does it take?
Sculptra works long-term and is a longer process than some other dermatology options. The process involves around three injection appointments over a few months. Results can be seen immediately, but usually take around four to six months to surface. More results can be seen around nine months after the appointments.
How long does it last?
Since this process is cumulative, the full results will be seen after all the injections have been made. Because of the deep dive into the dermis, the results are long-lasting—around two years is expected. This long results period makes the investment into Sculptra worth it for many patients.
